Along with the UU Fellowship in Amarillo and the UU Church of Stillwater she has served congregations in Hokessin, DE; Syracuse, NY; Tulsa, and Norman OK.Reverend Carol Fincher served the UU Church of Stillwater as the first full time minister from 1988 to 1994. Prior to that time she served for two years as the minister in the UU Fellowship of Amarillo, TX. She attended Starr King School For the Ministry in Berkeley, California. (Starr King is one of two UU schools.) Part of the training for ministers in the UU tradition is to participate in Clinical Pastoral Education in a hospital or prison setting. Rev. Fincher did her training at The Martinez, California Veterans Administration Medical Center. Emphasis in that training was to be a non-anxious presence in times of counseling, accidents, illness or death - to ‘walk’ with the person or family when there are difficult times. It is equally important to be PRESENT in times of joy - dedicating children, presiding at weddings or unions are times of joy and celebration. Rev. Fincher is a native of Fairfax, OK. She has two children and three grandsons. Her son Dennis deGraad lives in Hilton, NY, where he and his wife Jeanne have two sons. Her daughter Ellen deGraad, lives in Stillwater, and is a member of the UU Church of Stillwater - her son Kevin is also active in the church school. |
